Is it a Right Way to Get Suggestions Publicly for our Website/Product?

March 26, 2008

In many of the forums, networking websites, some of our friends have requested the crowd to check their website for further improvement. Most of us will get enormous responses for our requests. Is it a right way to ask someone publicly to review our website/product? Here are some of the advantages and dis advantages of asking suggestions publicly:

Advantages:

  •  Target Audience Comments
  • Outside help for improvements
  • Better Networking
  • You might have used their valuable, good comments as a testimonial after asking permission
  • Traffic for the website/product
  • Word of Mouth
  • Enhancement Help

Dis Advantages:

  • Hesitation in your quality
  • If someone search the web, they can able to see your requests along with your product. If you didn’t get satisfactory comments, then it would affect your product/service. Your total brand would get spoiled
  • The people you’ve requested may not be the target audience
  • You might have got confused of different opinions from the crowd
  • After lot of tweaking and implementation, there might be some conflicts in real time opinion and comments

The best way to get proper comments are,

  • beta” testing. This would surely help for a product for further enhancements.
  • Polling – This would help for both product and website
  • You can raise your requests to the forums which are all not indexed by search engines. For example, LinkedIn. So, even if you ask their advice for your new product or services, that won’t be indexed when someone is looking at your solution
  • Ask  opinions privately: PM some of your favorite people in professional networking websites and ask their suggestions on your new product or service
  • Ask opinions with a hidden questions: Ask them like, Hey guys, I’ve gone through “XXXXXX” website/product recently. Their solution is great. However, Do you know anyone providing the same kid of solutions? explain them that this would be the great product/service which has lot of USP’s.

The above points would helps us to know what are flaws/USP’s of our solution when compared to others and for further enhancement help.
